Gayle Maloney is the Director of Projects and Board Governance for the Office of National Laboratories at the University of Chicago where she plays a key role in strategic, operational, and governance leadership for the University’s stewardship of Argonne National Laboratory and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. She oversees core operational functions, drives cross-institutional initiatives, and ensures the management practices advance each laboratory’s scientific mission and national impact.
Ms. Maloney crafts governance strategy for the Argonne Board of Governors and the FermiForward Board of Directors, developing frameworks that strengthen compliance, risk management, and effective oversight. Her portfolio includes managing high-impact board activities, strategic initiatives, and major projects that advance long-term priorities across the laboratories and the University.
Ms. Maloney’s responsibilities also include financial oversight, budgeting, and resource alignment for a broad suite of lab-related initiatives. She ensures operational efficiency, fiscal integrity, and continuous improvement. She works closely with the Department of Energy, laboratory leadership, University administration, and external partners to align priorities, strengthen communication, and support mission execution.
Through her work, she advances the University of Chicago’s enduring commitment to the success, governance, and national leadership of Argonne and Fermilab.
Prior to joining the University of Chicago, Ms. Maloney was a Project Manager at Argonne National Laboratory, where she gained invaluable experience in managing high-impact projects in a research-driven environment. She received her M.B.A. from Benedictine University and a Bachelor of Science from Northern Illinois University.
