Stanley O. Ikenberry

Stanley O. Ikenberry has had a life-long career in higher education, serving as the 14th president of the University of Illinois from 1979 through 1995. Following the Illinois presidency he served as the president of the Washington-based American Council of Education, returning to Illinois in 2001 as a member of the faculty.

On January 1, 2010, and at the request of the University's Board of Trustees, Ikenberry returned as president of the University until the appointment and arrival of a successor. The recipient of 16 honorary degrees, Ikenberry earned his bachelor's degree from Shepherd College and master's and doctoral degrees from Michigan State University. He came to Illinois having earlier served as senior vice president of the Pennsylvania State University.
